Sustainability
Initiatives

End-of-life product recycling

In 2024, we launched our first in-country end-of-life product return initiative. In Germany, we are now fully recycling used Ei devices and accepting third-party products in exchange for new Ei devices on a one-for-one basis.

Near Zero Energy Building (NZEB) – Our New HQ

In developing our new HQ, every effort was made to adhere to our sustainable engineering initiative and minimise the building’s environmental impact, contributing to the achievement of the first ‘Near Zero Energy Building’ (NZEB) in the Shannon region.

  • First Near Zero Energy Building (NZEB) in Shannon.
  • Over 2,400m3 of rainwater harvested in 2024.
  • 90% of lighting is ECO Led Lighting with target of 100%.
  • Over 400,000 KWH of solar produced onsite in 2024.
  • 100% of our grid electricity is green energy.
  • Heat pump contributing to our heating and cooling requirements.
  • 20% reduction in water consumption in 2024 versus 2023.
  • 33% reduction in natural gas usage in 2024 versus 2023.

Ei partners with Flogas windfarm for renewable energy

Continuing our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, in 2025, Ei entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Flogas windfarm in Donegal. The green energy from the windfarm supplies our campus with 50% of our power requirements, marking a significant shift in our energy usage.

Sustainability creds powered by new Eco range

The soon-to-be-released 4000 series Eco Range has been planned and designed with sustainability at its core. Our most advanced, multi-sensor device also packs a host of impressive sustainability credentials.

  • 60% lower power consumption.
  • 20% lower energy used to manufacture.
  • 15% reduction in plastic used in product.
  • No labels, saving 2,000kg of paper per year.
  • Design for recyclability – PCB, battery and plastic.

Our new UK campus includes four acres of open green space

In 2019, our UK team moved into their new headquarters on a greenfield site in Oswestry. During the planning stages, every effort was made to minimise the project’s environmental impact, incorporating elements that benefit wildlife, staff and local residents.

Four acres of the seven-acre site are dedicated to open space. We implemented a planting scheme of over 300 trees, 4,000 shrubs, and a 2,500m2 wildflower meadow. We created an attenuation pond, ensuring the site’s rainwater is not discharged into the sewage system. This expansive outdoor area provides a habitat for local wildlife and serves as a space for our team and the local community to enjoy.

Packaging

Re-thinking packaging saves 1,500 trees each year

We continue to review our primary packaging, addressing every range while transitioning to environmentally friendly printing processes, materials, and construction. In 2020, we digitised our product instructions for the 3000 Series. This was achieved by reducing the size of the instruction leaflets to the bare minimum and providing a QR code for a complete set of PDF instructions, resulting in a reduction of 38 tonnes in paper usage.

52 tonnes of packaging reduced annually

Since 2019, we’ve reduced our total packaging volume by 52 tonnes annually through the adoption of smaller packaging and improved forming processes in our product manufacture. We’ve also greatly reduced the amount of plastics in use, and the digitisation of our Product User Manuals has resulted in a 24-tonne reduction in paper use each year since 2020.

RESPONSIBLE SOURCING

Supplier portal sharpens sustainability efforts

Our commitment to sustainability extends to supplier selection. We’ve developed a digital portal that assists in the auditing and management of our global suppliers. Ensuring we’re crystal clear on the sustainability of our entire supply chain.

Giving back to our communities

Globally across all of our subsidiaries, Ei is committed to giving back to the community and developing the regions we work in. Our contribution extends across key pillars including health, arts, education, culture and sport.
