Job Title: Senior Hardware Design Engineer

Location: Shannon, Co. Clare, Ireland

Reporting to: Engineering Manager

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent, Onsite

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Hardware Design Engineer to join the Engineering and R & D group. This is a senior, hands-on role with a strong focus on hardware architecture and board level design for next generation fire and gas detection products, as well as connected IoT systems.

You will be involved across the full product lifecycle, from early concept development and feasibility studies through detailed design, validation, and transition into high volume manufacturing. You will work closely with firmware, software, validation, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust, compliant, and high quality consumer safety products.

As a Senior Hardware Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping our next generation of products, taking ownership of complex PCB designs and driving the adoption of new technologies. You will be deeply involved throughout the product development lifecycle — from early concept and architecture through schematic design, layout oversight, bring-up, and validation and get to see your product manufactured on site in Shannon.

  • Define hardware architectures and deliver board level designs for new alarm, sensor, and gateway products.
  • Lead hardware development from concept through schematic capture, PCB layout support, prototype build, bring up, and full validation.
  • Design low power analogue and mixed signal circuits, including power management, DC DC converters, battery charging, and battery powered systems.
  • Develop processor based embedded hardware platforms and digital circuit designs using microcontrollers and supporting peripherals.
  • Integrate wireless technologies such as Zigbee, Z Wave, WiFi, and Bluetooth, ensuring reliable performance and regulatory compliance.
  • Apply EMC, ESD, and EMI mitigation techniques, along with RF de sensitisation methods, to meet global compliance standards.
  • Collaborate closely with firmware and software teams on hardware drivers, system bring up, and overall system functionality.
  • Support product certification, regulatory compliance testing, and manufacturing ramp up activities.
  • Ensure designs meet DFM and DFT requirements and are suitable for cost effective, high volume production.
  • Produce clear and accurate technical documentation and actively participate in design and peer reviews.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers where required.
  • Honours degree or higher in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Extensive industry experience in hardware design and product development
  • Strong experience in low power circuit design, analogue and mixed signal design.
  • Experience developing embedded hardware platforms and processor based systems.
  • Proven board level schematic capture and PCB design experience.
  • Hands on experience with communication interfaces such as I2C, UART, SPI, and USB.
  • Solid understanding of RF fundamentals and wireless system integration.
  • Experience owning hardware designs across the full product lifecycle, including debugging and fault finding in both lab and manufacturing environments
  • Ability to work independently and make sound, well reasoned engineering decisions.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly document and explain technical designs.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes, including DFM and DFT, and working with external manufacturing partners.

We offer a challenging yet rewarding role in a dynamic R&D environment. Your contributions will directly impact our cutting-edge products, enhancing safety and connectivity globally. We provide a competitive salary & bonus scheme, health benefits, professional development opportunities, modern office facilities, and state-of-the-art R&D Labs & equipment.

If you are a proactive and technically adept individual with an unwavering commitment to product quality, we encourage you to apply! Join us in shaping the future of smart home technology.
