Applications

The 160RC Series of Easi-fit mains powered smoke and heat alarms has been designed to offer peace of mind to the specifier and end user by using proven trusted Ei technology in a new slim profile alarm that is now even easier to install. The Easi-fit 160RC Series includes high performance tamper-proof 10 year life Rechargeable Lithium Cells providing confidence to the specifier, coucils, housing associations, as well as the home owner/tenant for the duration of the product life cycle in service.
The Ei160RC Series also has Remote Control capability – allowing the detectors to be remotely controlled (Test, Locate and Hush) from a Control Switch (Ei1529RC). This facility is particular effective for elderly people or people with disabilities and allows them to test the alarms regularly and safely without having to climb ladders to reach the products on the ceilings.

Installation

For full Installation and Siting Instructions please refer to the Installation Instructions and User Instructions

WARNING: Mains operated Alarms should be installed and interconnected by a qualified electrician in accordance with the Regulations for Electrical Installations published by the Institution of Electrical Engineers (BS7671). Failure to install this Alarm correctly may expose the user to shock or fire hazards.

Ideally install in the centre of ceiling at least 300mm(1ft) from light fittings. Keep ionisation alarms away from kitchens to prevent nuisance alarms.

Interconnect all alarms

Remove unit from mounting plate by releasing catch

Connect the house wiring to the mounting plate, noting the live, neutral, IC and earth connections. Ensure house live mains is correctly connected to L terminals on all interconnected alarms – otherwise units will be damaged

Always button test the alarm after it has been installed to ensure it works properly and also that the interconnected alarms work.

Do not fit actual alarm until all building work is completed to avoid contamination. After checking operation, cover smoke alarm with dust cover until required for use

Don’t megger the alarm. Disconnect the alarm before applying high voltage to house wiring

Trouble Shooting

Frequent nuisance Alarms occur:
Close kitchen/bathroom door when in use

Ensure that the alarm is sited at least 6m away from sources of fumes

Contamination from insects, paint or paint fumes may have occured. Clean the alarm

If the problem persists, resiting of the unit should be considered. Alternatively, replace the unit with an Optical unit assuming that the problem is with an Ionisation type alarm.

Alarm sounds for no apparent reason:
Identify the alarm source. On interconnected units, the red light on the cover will flash rapidly only on the unit which is the source of the alarm

Check for fumes, steam etc. from the kitchen or bathroom. Paint and other fumes can cause nuisance alarms

Press the test/hush button to silence the Smoke/Heat Alarm for 10 minutes

If the alarm does not stop, switch off mains and remove unit (only remove alarm with red light flashing, the others are probably satisfactory)

Low battery & other beeps:
Check the green mains power light is on. If not, check fuse, circuit breakers and wiring connections. If the green light is off,the lithium cells will deplete after some months without mains and will need to be recharged. If the above fails to turn on the green light, a fault may exist. Switch off mains and remove the unit

If the green mains light is on and recharging the lithium cells or cleaning has not stopped beeps, a fault may exist. Disconnect the mains first and replace the unit

The Ei161RC gives two beeps 10 minutes after the test/hush button is pressed

Interconnected Alarms do not all sound:
Hold test button for 10 seconds after first alarm has sounded to ensure signal is transmitted to all units

Switch off mains and check that live, neutral and interconnect cables have been correctly connected and that the connections are tight
